Extended warranties offer coverage from an auto dealer or manufacturer on the sale of a new or used car. This is specialized bumper-to-bumper coverage for vehicles that kind of top up the basic car warranties that are usually offered with each new car. This type of coverage is usually available to cover those things of what are not covered by your basic and power train warranties that come with the car.

This type of coverage provides a list of parts that covered by insurance. They are also sometimes called exclusionary plans.  This type of coverage is has many different types and levels. Often they cover the entirety of one major system of a car.

Some types of power train warranties come with new cars but another type is a supplementary insurance that covers the breakdown of the transmission, axle and drive axles. Usually this type of coverage is good to obtain for a used car as it covers about 25% of the car.
